Waweig River Campground was a well established summer youth camp which served our community for more than eighty years. It all began back in 1927 in the heart of the depression. The evidence of the youth who enjoyed their stay here lingers throughout the premises. The names of all those who spent their summer frolicking beneath the trees at Camp Waweig, are marked or etched on the walls and rafters. Perhaps your name or someone dear to you is written on the boards and timbers of the past. If you were here for a visit maybe, just maybe a familiar name would jump out at you. I wonder what secrets are held by the whimsical wind, Oh, if only the whispering pines of the forest grove could talk.
